Topaz Quilting & Embroidery is happy to reveal our row for the Row by Row Experience for 2016.
We’ve designed a simple block with only two colors but we felt it sums up some details of the great state of Nevada. Here are some facts of Statehood that you may find interesting and ultimately helped us decide on the design of our block:
President Abraham Lincoln, on October 31, 1864, announced Nevada’s admission to the Union as the 36th state. Nevada is the”Silver State” but is also nicknamed “Battle Born” and “Sagebrush State”.
Nevada’s first settlement is known as “Mormon Station”, simple log homes, established in 1851 in the small community of Genoa, Nevada.
Genoa was the first permanent settlement in the Utah Territory, by now known as Nevada. Genoa was named after Christopher Columbus’ birthplace, by Orson Hyde, a Mormon Elder and first probate Judge.
Nevada state colors are Silver and Blue and the state song is “Home Means Nevada”.
We’ve chosen a solid blue and a shimmery silver/white for our colors in keeping with the state colors and have incorporated two Log Cabin blocks as well as premiered the state song front and center on our block.
Julianne Yax is the winner in Las Vegas, NV at the Sew Little Time Shop. She made this quilt for her daughter who will be attending school up here in Reno this year. She used our block as the header for this wonder gift to keep her daughter from feeling homesick while attending school. We are honored to have our block heading up this beautiful quilt! Great Job Julianne!
